Education is a very important export market for Australia 
and each year tens of thousands of students from various overseas countries come to Australia to undertake study courses or training programs of one type or another. In fact education is a major performer in Australia’s export services sector, and the number of student visas being granted is expected to outstrip other mainstream categories of visas in years to come.
From 1 July 2016, there are only two student visa subclasses:
- Student visa (subclass 500), and
- Student Guardian visa (subclass 590).
