1. TEMPORARY BUSINESS VISAS
The policy of the Australian Government is that business people who intend to settle in Australia permanently on the basis of wishing to set up and run their own businesses should be encouraged to come to Australia for an exploratory visit first.
The options for temporary business visas are:
- Business visitor stream in the 600 visitor visa
- Apec business travel card (ABTC)
- Investor retirement (405) VISA
2. BUSINESS SKILLS MIGRATION
Since 1 July 2012 the Department has integrated Business visas into the ‘SkillSelect’ scheme, where applicants need to indicate their intention to apply for a business visa via an Expression of Interest (EOI) lodged online, and will have to wait for an invitation to apply before they could actually submit an application.
All applications for business visas lodged after 1 July 2012 will need to be supported by a sponsorship by a State/Territory government or Austrade.
Under SkillSelect, the number of business visas have been collpased to the below:
- Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)(188) visa, and
- Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent)(888) visa.
From July 2024, the provisional Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188) was closed to new applications and expressions of interest.
